About the course

PMDD is often recognised late and managed inconsistently in primary care. This programme supports GPs to use a clear, repeatable approach to recognising cyclical symptom patterns, assessing safely, and planning first-line management and escalation when needed.

Through practical scenarios and consultation-focused examples, you will build confidence in cycle-based history-taking, introducing Daily Record of Severity of Problems (DRSP) tracking, distinguishing PMDD from PMS and premenstrual exacerbation, and documenting findings in a consistent way that supports continuity of care.

Content is aligned with UK clinical guidance and designed around primary care workflow to strengthen recognition reliability without adding complexity.

  • Accurate recognition, not symptom snapshots

Learn a structured approach to cyclical history-taking and prospective symptom tracking using the DRSP, helping you recognise PMDD patterns and reduce misclassification as depression or anxiety.

  • Safer first-line decisions and escalation

Clear guidance on first-line treatment options, safety-netting, and when to escalate or refer — helping you make consistent decisions under real consultation time pressure.

  • Evidence-based patient communication

Practical language for introducing DRSP tracking, setting expectations, and supporting shared decision making to help reduce consultation complexity and improve follow-up.

Clinical credibility and CPD recognition

  • Independently reviewed by a practicing GP

  • Independently reviewed by a specialist in gynaecology and women's health

  • Certificate of completion issued on finishing the programme

  • Three hours of self-directed learning, suitable for recording in a professional development portfolio
